Vote Milly!

If you are at Warwick Uni reading this, and are part of RaW then make sure you get your booties down to the RaW elections this week, and it is my opinion that you should vote Emily (Milly) Lewis for Station Manager!  She will be the fabbess of fabness!  So please do!

And another hurrah, for favourite Norwegian popstar, Annie, is playing at favourite London venue Fabric in a few weeks.

Single number 1, Chewing Gum, made a tiny dent in the world, charting at number 25 in September last year. I absolutely hated it at first. Then I heard it out, had a boogie to it, and loved it.

I bought the album, Anniemal, shortly after and it’s really delightful.

Single number 2, Heartbeat, is out next Monday.

Go get it pop pickers!

New Music

I realise that I have neglected to mention a couple of bands that we have seen recently, all of which are bubbling on the verge of being known by most people. So I just want to point out I saw them first 🙂 and encourage you to buy their work.

The Go! Team are a 6 piece (I think, there’s a lot of them on stage) who released a great album – Thunder Lightning Strike late last year. We first heard them at Buttoned Down Disco via the, rather more expensive than just asking the dj, route of Shazam!. Dearest J then toddled off and bought the album and released a whole gaggle of excitedness on us by playing everyone an excellent track off the album ‘Bottle Rocket’. This was said track that we had heard at BDD. It also transpired that BBC Radio 1 were using another track ‘Ladyflash’ on their In New Music We Trust adverts.

So earlier in January, we took our asses down to the 100 club on Oxford Street to the Go! Team’s sold out headlining London date.

The sound was a bit pap, but the energy and the tracks were there, and it was good. Ricky can say it much better than me over at BBC London online.

And that review also tells you about the 2nd of 3 great acts I’m championing at the moment – the Pipettes – 3 young, provative, polka dot outfitted young ladies doing the Shangri Las in the naughties. Practically every male I saw them with hasn’t stopped blathering about them since the gig. The brunette is indeed insanely hot.

Basically if you get chance to catch the Pipettes anywhere then do. They are the whole package, and I can’t wait to get my hands on an album when it comes out. Huw played one of their tracks on One Music a few weeks ago, so keep an ear out. [You can hear a few tracks in ear raping quality on their website.]

And finally Client. Client are Sarah from Dubstar and Alan McGee’s wife, a two piece vaguely homoerotic electro outfit. They aren’t new, but two albums into their life. I first heard them, I think, on the Essential Selection when Mr Tong rolled out ‘Radio’. I tongue wagged a bit about this to J but we didn’t really chase it up. Then we visited the Notting Hill Arts Centre’s ‘Death Disco’ (which is run by Alan McGee) and after about 20 Libertines songs in 2 hours, J raced to Shazam and it turned out we had heard Client – Pornography (predictably feat a Libertine (Mr Barat)). This track went on to chart at number 22 in January in the Official Singles Chart, and the album became a firm favourite in our house.

We finally got to see them last week at Koko in Camden, and they were great.

So… go forth and seek out new music from The Go! Team, The Pipettes and Client.

Back to the old school

So this weekend I will be returning to my old university for a night out for the first time since leaving. I expected to go back loads and am very suprised this is the first time. Meta 10 is however calling. Even more remarkable, its going to be housemate J’s first time back in 6 years. Yikes!

Oooh and iTunes has just started playing Aqua to me. Ace!

New House

Whoo. We have moved house. Cleaning in old place was completed today and unpacking shall take place in new place properly tomorrow.

And thanks to forward planning by J & I, we have adsl in new place already! Whooohooo.

Mr Gates’ white headphones nightmare!

My friend just passed me a link to this article on

Apparantly Microsoft HQ is, like the rest of the world, covered in people scurrying about with iPods. And the big boss ain’t too happy.

Talking of which I really need to get some non white headphones, not because my boss is going to tell me off, but so I’m not wearing a big PLEASE MUG ME sign.

Out of date

So as I keep saying, my top image is wrong. I don’t do student radio (really) anymore, and I don’t do union politics. I am sure new flatmate L will help me with it very soon.

However some quick things:

My old student radio station RaW goes onto FM for a month next Monday. Things seem OKish back there, although there are certainly a few unhelpful people from what I hear, but I’m giving them a hand by making the test transmission, in this my week off.

I turn 23 next week. I don’t really want to. I’d like to be 21 or 24. 23 just sounds a bit pants.

Old union wise – elections are in full force. Good luck to my friends Nick, Ben & Stu who are running for stuff.

I am sneezy and have a runny nose. Bum.

I got 2 pairs of boots from Harrods at the weekend. Harrods I hear you cry in shock? Well yes, but it was the last day of the sale, so they were remarkably reduced + a final day 20% extra off. A swanky pair of Miss Sixty wellies for summer festivals, and a weird urban DKNY boot is in lounge looking hunky.

Richard Bacon is going to be presenting a clips style breakfast show on BBC7. I used to work there, but chose not to anymore. Now I’m annoyed because I’ve missed out on potential seducing Richard Bacon scenarios. Dammit.

Jono Coleman has been dumped from Heart 106.2’s breakfast show in a move that left me saying “Oh my god!” in a Vince (QAF) way for a few minutes. To be replaced by Mr Jamie Theakston. The core audience are going to be swooning all over the shop.

End of brain dump!
