New York, New York

22 Feb

So now something practical…

We are going to New York in April.   We have no idea where to stay!

If you have any advice on hotels and/or good locations then please let me know.  We are after a double room for 5 nights for less than £600.  Obviously the cheaper the better, but we are stupid, extravagant bastards, and want to stay somewhere swanky.

Many thanks!

What kind of a neighborhood are you looking for?

I stayed in the hotel ‘Habitat’ it’s in Manhatton walking distance to anything interesting i.e. time sq., empire, chrysler etc. Anyway.. it’s cheap, website is habitat-ny.com i seem to remember – just make sure you get en-suite rather than a shared shower (unless you like that sort of thing!)

If you don’t mind keeping the company of backpackers, some friends enjoyed staying at jazz on the park (jazzonthepark.com) a few years back. Private rooms are available, but don’t expect luxury.

Cheapest option is to find people who live in NYC or in nearby New Jersey (hint) and borrow their couch/spare room for a bit. Otherwise, check out cheap hotels through expedia/travelocity, but don’t expect too much: you’ll end up paying mostly for location.

And check the weather: it might still be cold! When exactly are you coming?
